A little. Mostly because I'm fairly new at my job and I feel like I'm expendable. But, I just have to trust God and do practical things, like keep my resume updated, keep my eyes open.

Not too much. I know that God is in control, so if I do lose my job, I don't have to worry too much. Secondly, my job is pretty vital to the State so it would be one of the last programs to be cut. However, it is an expendable kind of job, so I'm not overly-confident. I just have to leave things in God's hands.

Yup. I thought I was untouchable, but news came this week that made me realize that I'm not. Panic spread throught out the organization. I'm scared but excited for the new adventure that God is bringing into my life. If I do lose my job, the organization will try it's best to find me another position. The only thing is it might not be here in my own province. It might be in the pacific coasts, which I would welcome with open heart. I'm preparing my daughter for this already, though if it did happen, it won't be for a year or two.

It's always a possibility, but I've got a skill set they need, so I don't think it's a great probability. OTOH, my husband is out of a job for the second time in little over a year. He switched careers after the company he had worked at for a long time started sliding downhill, and let him go. He went to get his CDL last year. The major trucking company that he started orientation at last November, and started driving for last January, suddenly let him go last week. I've found out from other trucking boards online they are using the same reasons with a lot of folks they've suddenly let go in the last month. The kicker is, with them firing him, him having less than a year's experience, it may be difficult for him to get a job in trucking.

No, I'm not worried at all...in my field, there is always demand...if not specifically in what I'm doing now, the skillset translates to other design fields. If not designing ships, I can go design other things...and I work for a large defense contractor...I'm not seeing any losses in my future. As a matter of fact, the sector I work for has over 100 open jobs posted at this time. Corporately, there's somewhere in the vicinity of 1500-2000 open jobs posted. NDY

My firm let several of my coworkers (recent college graduates) go back in March after they had worked for seven months in a general layoff. Most have been able to find jobs at other firms without even getting questioned about why they were let go. These aren't normal times, where losing your job after six months of work looks bad. People understand that people get laid off in recessions- even new employees. quote:

I am not worried. I manage in the restaurant business and I actually feel like he is leading me out, however I can always come back if need be and I make ok money. As many have said God provides! G

Not at all and I know that the possibility is quite real because of my industry and my position but you see, I know what it is to be in need and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. So, what if I lose my job? What have I lost?

I have already lost my job. 2 times in the past year. And I have worked contract jobs since and when the time was up, they are up. I have also been on interviews, and totally thought I had the job and did not get anything. I went on 5 interviews in one week one time and got nothing. It used to put me into a depression. What was wrong with me, how come this is happening? I totally put myself into the job interviews, and it would kill me when I did not get it. Now I am doing so much better. I just figure God will open the right door. The thing I need to do it just do my best job at interviewing, and is going to open the door. It has helped me to not stress about things I can't control. It is not me, it is a fit or a company need. And God can see down the line and how this is going to work out in the end. So although I would like to be done looking, I don't worry about losing my job. I just take it day by day and I have been out of work before, and found work, and I will again.

I'm not really worried about it, but in the back of my mind I know it's possible. I'm a medical transcriptionist, and I know my job could be outsourced to India at any time. I pray it never happens. As of right now, God has blessed me with plenty of work. Lucy

It’s great to hear how most everyone is at peace and trusting in the LORD. I quit my job back in February and have lived off my savings since. I had allowed my career to become my god and needed this time without work to get my priorities straight. I’m in the healthcare profession and get quite a few job offers (we will always have sick and injured folks) but am enjoying my time off. It’s given me lots of time to focus on spiritual matters and volunteer time to ministry. However, I did get an offer for a job a few weeks ago that will provide me with a very flexible schedule which is something I prayed for. They are going to put a compensation package together next week sometime. It is quite a story, since they were not looking for an employee and I wasn't looking for a job. I met a stranger in a parking lot and we got to talking and next thing you know, his boss is calling me, then his boss' boss... One thing I learned from a former supervisor and friend is that “no one is as important as they think.” When I quit that job six years ago, because a new “pointy-haired boss” (think Dilbert) came along, I thought the business would fail. It took them 18-months to hire a replacement, but the business did not fail, though it did falter. So those of you who think you have job security, count your blessings and make sure you store up for the winters. Those who don’t have jobs, the Lord will indeed provide.

Not really. It's possible that job1 will be cut in the near future...actually my entire organization could go away (3000+ people), though at this point I would probably be one of the last eliminated (or the first...)...when they were talking mandatory furlough last summer, I was probably one of the few that was looking forward to not working (even without pay) for a few months...then I found out my division was not included in the organization wide mandatory furlough...which didn't happen anyway. Job2 could go away anytime...I'm an adjunct teaching a class--they don't have a big enough demand to hire anyone full-time...and they have been ordered to cut costs 1% immediately and 4% in the next 6 months--which could mean someone full-time loses their job. I think part of the reason that I'm not worried is that I took the position (job1) 2 years ago with the feeling that this was all temporary. I am convinced I am where God want's me RIGHT NOW, but I still have a very strong feeling that it is not going to last. Because of that feeling, I've been slowly putting things in order so that we can leave on a moments notice. Of course, I've believed for nearly 10 years now that the days when a Christian will be able to work in my career field were numbered. God has a plan and I'm just waiting until he reveals the next step.

Well.. I manage a used car lot. It's very tough right now. I hate what I do.. I hate the rat race, and I'm so burn out doing this. I've been looking for something else, but as everyone knows. The job market is very tight. As far as me losing my job. I could. The people I work for don't care that much for me anyway. I've gave of myself for 7 years now, worked on my days off, and never even been told thank you.. Not to mention not being paid. If I do lose my job.. I worry about my bills.. I've always been very good at paying my bills.. I have a outstanding credit rating.. I've always been able to go buy whatever I needed.. It scares me to think of having that messed up because of losing a job. But I know that the Lord would take care of me.. Life isn't about credit ratings anyway.. I almost welcome change.. At any cost.. Because this type of business has affected me in so many ways..

I have always had a deep seated fear in the back of my mind concerning my employment and my job, today as well in the past. I do not believe my job is under any sort of probability of being lost. On the other hand, you never really know. I work at a major university and in my department, there have been five position abolishments in the last year and I have even been moved to a more stable area. My skill set is very specific to what I do, but you never really now. I know God is in control of my life, but I always have the most fearful ideas in my mind of not being able to make it. It is not me that I am worried about so much, it is my daughter. Whatever happens to me is one thing, but my daughter is a whole separate subject. My wife and I have worked very hard in our lives and have been quite successful, especially in consideration of where we came from. It is pretty scary when you start to watch the evening news on the long term economic situation that the US is in. It is worse that the mainstream reports, it is a global nightmare when it comes to US interests.

No. I am in a research position that is funded for five years. Unless I do something really stupid, I am safe. However, I would like to so some other stuff in my spare time, and those jobs are not as easy to get a hold of now and due to the economy, the extra income would be quite helpful to my budget. Tara
