I knew she would be a little early! I didn't vote in the poll, but I was thinking it would be last week or this week.

That's so exciting, Angie, I'm so excited for you! I hope you can post soon and tell us how everything went!

Hi Everyone,

I'm not going to write up a birth story right now, but I am happy to say we are at home. Hannah is doing awesome and taking to the breast quite easily. The only problem is that my milk is not producing enough. She was crying so inconsolable because she wasn't getting enough to eat. I woke up my husband at 4:30am to run and get some ready made formula while I sanitized bottles. After taking only 1/2 oz. she was out for a few hours. Phew! I am nursing her but have to give her a little bit of formula afterwards to fill her little belly. Hopefully, my milk comes in soon.

One awesome part is that my sister got a last minute flight into Ohio from Florida on Friday to attend my aunt's funeral. She was able to witness the birth.

Here are some pictures my hubby put up on facebook.

I will post more later.

Thanks for your well wishes.

Thanks for the congrats!

My son, Derek, is a little jealous while at the same time intrigued by Hannah. He has been bringing his friends in to see her and calls her the breakfast burrito since she looks like a burrito when swaddled in her kiddopodimso (which by the way is an awesome invention). He has been acting out a little bit by not wanting to eat dinner or wanting to eat something other than what is served (something that doesn't go over well in my house). I am trying to give him attention like before but find it hard to since my focus has been redirected. With time, the relationships of the house will balance. It is an adjustment.

Derek is turning 10 on Sunday. Much to my desire to not have a bunch of kids around, I am going to continue with the planned birthday overnight so he doesn't feel jilted by Hannah's arrival. Hubby will be taking on the party games in my place. Thank God we have a basement for the kids to play freely.

Hannah is a delight. She doesn't cry much as long as her needs are met and sleeps well. My milk came in. So she is getting enough to eat now.

You sound like you have it all under control, Angie. Congratulations on your new baby girl!

And good luck with the sleepover party, I can understand why you'd still attempt to hold it.

Hannah’s Birth Story written to Hannah

Hannah Nicole Szunyogh made a few attempts at entering this world. The first attempt was at 35 weeks, 3 days in utero. Mom was having contractions every 7 minutes, called Dr Stokes and went to his office for a visit. Dad met her there nearly beating her. He was working at Grandma Penny’s house in Berea. Once the doctor monitored the contractions, he sent us to the hospital to stop them. After multiple attempts (hydration, Nubian and some other drug), the contractions stopped. 5 days later the contractions started again. Mom and Dad went back into the hospital only for the contractions to cease on their own.

The following day, Tuesday Nov. 4th, Mom had her 36-week check up with Dr Stokes. He said she was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. That Saturday Nov. 8th the contractions started again and became harder. Once again, off to the hospital Mom and Dad went.

The interesting amazing part is that Aunt Andrea was here from Florida due to a death in the family. Mom was to attend her Aunt Judy’s (Grandpa Owen’s sister) funeral but decided to stay home since contractions started again.

Andrea, Mom and Dad waited in the hospital for 4 hours while Mom’s contractions were observed. At that time Mom was admitted to the hospital since she was 4 cm dilated and 75% effaced. Dr Stokes didn’t want to release Mom because baby Hannah’s heart rate would drop to a scary level during large contractions. Mom labored all evening and into the wee hours of the morning until nurse Valerie began inducing labor (per doc’s instructions) at 1:30am. Mom slept on and off through the night and was only 5 cm dilated by morning. Ugh, all those contractions felt like they were in vain. Mom was offered Nubain or Demerol overnight to subside the pain, but she didn’t want to take it. By 10am the following morning, Mom decided to get the epidural. The contractions were intense and hadn’t dilated Mom any further than 5 cm.

Anesthesiologist Deb along with nurse Valerie (who was nurse of the month at EMH) came into the room and gave Mom the epidural just before stripping her membranes. Once Mom lost her water, the contractions came hard and fast. By noon, Mom had dilated to 8 cm. By 1:30, her body was ready to push. The only thing is that Dr Stokes had not yet arrived. So the pitocin was turned down and Mom worked not to push until doc made it to the hospital. Finally, Dr Stokes arrived at 2:20. Aunt Andrea and Dad were holding Mom’s legs while she pushed. Grandma Penny was in the room as well. Aunt Andrea and Grandma Penny felt quite blessed to witness your birth. Mom pushed for 20 minutes and Hannah came crying into the world. Dad was smiling ear to ear.

Dad cut the umbilical cord, and Dr Stokes put you on my stomach. The miracle of your birth caused Mom to cry tears of joy.

The nurses took you to run some tests, clean you and measure/weigh you. Hannah Nicole weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz and was 20.5 inches long. You rated 8/10 on the apgar test, which looks at muscle tone, reflex response, color, respiration, and heart rate. November 9th was a glorious day in the Szunyogh household.

Yesterday afternoon I was showing Derek his umbilical cord which was saved in his baby book. While browsing through the book I found his birth story. I was prompted to write Hannah's birth story after rereading Derek's yesterday. Derek has been intrigued by Hannah and has taken interest in her umbilical cord.

Derek's 10 birthday party (an overnight with 4 other boys) went quite well. The boys stayed up till after 2 am watching Indiana Jones in the basement, but because they were in the basement the noise was tolerable. Derek had a good time which is all that matters. I even took some time away while hubby watched Hannah. Derek and I went to see Madagascar 2. I have been working to make sure Derek still feels special. We all know babies get a lot of attention which can be hard on an only child of 10.
