Has anyone ever read the short story entitled "Of Daffodils and Diesels"? It's written from the perspective of a 14 year old boy in the 7th grade of public school. Well, I just typed it up over at my blog. If you'd like to stop by and read it, just click here.

I highly recommend it for anyone with a teen-aged boy -- specifically those of us who have boys who are "text-book challenged". Light reading and light-hearted, but my 10 year old loves the story (I think he found a kindred spirit there!). Check it out!

Thank you for that, Rebecca.

I just saw my 8 year old in that post. He will be coming back home soon (not sure if at Christmas break or at the end of the school year). He just does not fit in a traditional school setting, and because of that, he causes trouble.

I can't wait to bring him back home and feed his love of learning again.

Yes, that is an awesome story. I saw my 11yo in it as well.
Thanks for posting it.

Boy, does that hit home. I can't tell you how many times I have wished that I had the nerve to quit school when I was 16 so I could get a REAL education. I have, only in the last few years or so, been able to come to terms with all the years that I wasted in high school.

GREAT story Rebecca! I put it in my newsletter file & may use it sometime for our hs group's newsletter! My son doesn't exactly fit that profile - unless you switched it to reading/making comics & science fiction!

LOL, my mom only had daughters, and yet, she always loved that story. I remember her reading it to us at the dinner table.

My mom only had daughters, too, but I saw myself in that story!

Ellie, I understand totally. I try to not be too negative about the traditional public education that I didn't receive. I know that I learned a ton in grades k-about 8, and I really appreciate several of my elementary teachers (and a few of my high school teachers, too!), but I was just to inquisitive to fit into the mold.

For that reason, I love homeschooling!!! We get to make the molds!!!

Blessings, everyone!
