Yesterday while making a delivery, I saw this woman and said to myself she is stylish! Her earrings and outfit match with a coordinating teal which looked very nice. Then that gave me the idea for this thread. Do you dress to be stylish, functionable or both? As usual, inquiring minds want to know!

A little of both. My job requires me to be very mobile and comfortable, but I look pretty young, and I've found that a more finished look makes it easier to establish some authority. I'm not what I would call fashionable, but I have a distinct casual tailored style.

Both,I love trendy clothes but because I am so skinny alot of shirts end up being low cut on me,so I wear undershirts alot. The same is true with alot of dresses I own.

Mostly functional, but I try to look "put together" when I go out someplace. Not for what other people think, but because it makes me feel more confident and better about myself.

I want to look nice, especially when I am out with my sweetie. But I have very few things that are also not functional. My two pair of high heel shoes perhaps.

Generally don't like trendy. Generally don't care to spend the time to be 'together' in the sense used by most people. Generally choose clothing based on comfort and efficiency of purpose. However, I don't think of that as being anti-stylish, but rather keeping my own sense of style...of what looks good on me and what I like...that doesn't take into account what magazines, movies, or fashion culture says are 'stylish.'

Usually both. Occasionally I dress just to be stylish - but I always pay for that in some way (usually with throbbing feet from very high heeled shoes). If I'm not going to see anyone and am just going to be home, I dress for comfort - although if my spirits are low, I'll take the extra step of dressing nicely. It always makes me feel better. But I was just thinking about this today - how to be functional and stylish. I'm not married now, but I was thinking to myself, what if I were ... would I want my husband to see me looking scraggly all of the time? I want to get in the habit of looking nice even around the house. So I was thinking that I want to build a wardrobe of comfortable and stylish stay at home clothes. Things that can be mixed and matched and that can be easily accessorized with a necklace or a hat - maybe a cute jacket or flats - but that is still very comfortable. Like the other women here, I don't follow trends that closely - I am leaning towards a more classic style these days.

I want my wardrobe to be functionally stylish, meaning pants have pockets, heels are not too high, tops can be worn with/without jacket/sweater, ab=nd all the pieces coordinate to show some style.

Usually both; as I am currently pregnant I lean heavily towards functional, but I still prefer to look fashionable. Especially because I get more questions about twins when I wear something less flattering. While I wouldn't feel comfortable in jeans every day at work, I don't go in for trendy much, but I do like to feel like I have some sense of style. When I'm at home with kids I will probably lean more towards functional... my signature "things" (silk scarves, wool hats) won't be very child-friendly.

I am weird and overweight, and I also like to be comfortable. this can easily be a recipe for frumpyness. I however am trying to add...skirts...now. I have not worn a skirt for over a year and now have one on (but had to buy footless leggings for them to wear with sandals yet cover the leg). I guess I wear what is commonly called business casual. If a guy likes arm-candy, I am not for him. I also tried on a pair of high-heels today and felt like I would fall. I can not stand that feeling, so I can't wear them. So there you go.

Usually both, but sometimes I have been known to live life in the words of Johnny Ramone, "Fashion over function" and just suck it up in extreme hot/cold situations.

Today I did not dress to be functional; I had a choice between functional and modest, and I picked modest. Mind you, I normally don't find in March that I'm so hot I'd rather just wear a tank top than a dressier shirt at work, but thank my pregnancy for that I guess. Normally I'd be bundled in three layers including a sweater at this time of year.

For me it really depends on the occasion. I voted both. But it really depends on when you catch me lol At 9 am rushing out the door to get my older ones to school - functional - or something like that, whatever you consider PJ bottoms, t-shirt, sneakers and coat. I am NOT a morning person. Afternoon carpool or Wed night childcare/work - between functional and stylish. Jeans, nice top, sneakers. MOPS (mothers group at church), dinner out with friends or Sunday mornings - stylish. Jeans or dress pants, flattering shirt and boots/sandals/nice shoes.

Women who dress to be functional but not stylish usually are not fashion-minded and vice versa. Women who spend time looking for acccessories that can coordinate with their clothing are the ones who are conscious of the latest trend in fashion. See what type of women you like. Oh yes, just a little reminder here, women who dress to be functional can save much of the bucks!
