No. I don't compare myself to others. I do of course notice whom I think is pretty but I don't then compare myself to her/them. I think I'm pretty enough and since I've got my Joel what have I got to be uptight or insecure about?

I think I tend to compare other things besides looks. Like...her kids behave better than mine, will sit in church without fussing, are more respectful, etc. Or thinking someone else has their lives all together...the friend with the spotless house and impeccable decorating taste (I have neither of those). Seeing people with "whole" families when mine will never be can get to me if I let it. These things haven't been so bad the past year or so. It seemed like God started showing me that no one really has it together, even if they appear to. Everyone has their own struggles, just like I have my own. They may not be the same, they may not be as severe or permanent type things, but they are there. On the looks side, I don't think I compare much. But I also have a hard time liking my own body/hair/skin/etc. I'm very self-conscious, but I don't think other people notice or care much. It's just my issue.

I sometimes compare that a lady at my playgroup has nicer clothes, her hair is done nicer, she has nicely applied makeup ... and I barely manage clean clothes and brushed hair sometimes. I'm content with my basic appearance, I just think sometimes I should put more effort into spicing it up.

I'm not a mom in playgroups, but I do tend to compare myself to people who look much more put together than I do. Or people who are more socially adept than I am. Or people who are my age but actually LOOK my age (I look about 16). I generally live in jeans and decent shirts, no makeup and minimal effort with my hair. I suppose if I put more effort into my looks I might look more put together, but I usually don't care when I get up in the morning. What you see is what you get.

Not so much... "pretty" is so subjective. I tend to look more at attitudes. "Wow, she's so much bubblier than I am!" Or "I wish I could be calm, cool, and collective like that". Or sometimes accomplishments, like "I wish I had mad photo taking skillz like her, yo". I do look at people of a healthy weight and wish I weren't underweight.

I don't very often. If I do, it's because I'm bored or something. I was kind of a late bloomer, so I don't really think of myself as being prettier than other people most of the time. I don't want other people to be uncomfortable around me, whether they are prettier or me or not.

I tend to lean toward Crystal's answer. =) The only difference from her answer and what I would like to say is that while she wishes she weren't underweight, I wish I wasn't overweight. Weight is what bothers me the most, and what I tend to compare myself on when it comes to the physical aspects of me.

The only time that I really compare myself to others is if we are doing the same thing but with different results. So I'll see someone with the same hairstyle but think "mine doesn't look like that, how come I can't get my hair to stay like that?" Or if I'm having trouble pulling off a fashion trend, I wonder why I can't get it like other women.

Yes and no, I don't usually think about it much. Usually people are all different and I fit on the continuum somewhere. But if I get into a group of really pretty, thin, made-up women (or all non-christian or all la leche league or all athletes..pick a thing I'm not) then I feel funny. Not that I'm worried about who I am but that I realize they're probably all judging me for what they feel is important (looking good blahblahblah). I feel uncomfortable until I'm back in a group who's either more varied or more open.

I usually don't compare looks, but I do compare other things like where they are in their life. It seems like whatever it is that we struggle with, that's what we compare. I've never really struggled with looks before. However right now I am struggling a lot with being childless, so I am usually comparing others "status" in life in regards to marriage and family.

First, I'll answer. Then I'll read. quote:
When you are in a group of women, do you look to see who is prettier than your or not as pretty as you? No way!!!!!!!!!!!! I can be pretty hard on myself and pretty forgiving of others in the looks department so if I did, I'd probably assume that EVERYONE is prettier than me, lol. So I just don't bother. Some days I know I have really cute days, but it's not in the context of other people. quote:
If you feel someone is prettier than you, do you feel uncomfortable? No, not at all. The only way this might apply is if maybe I felt underdressed for an occasion and I felt everyone else was all dressed up and I looked homey. Then I might feel self conscience. But if it's just appearances, I think we are probably all pretty equally strange looking. quote:
If you feel prettier than someone else, does it make you feel confident? Nah, I'd probably feel guilty for thinking that they were uglier than me. I'm good for finding some reason to be mad with me, so if I felt like I was the cutest one in the room...then I'd just be upset with myself for being the vainest one there too, lol. And I'd quickly forget about being cuter.
