Son and I were running an errand at Target, and by the exit was a little girl (maybe 3) wandering alone. The employees converged on her quickly, because if she was indeed alone, they didn't want her leaving the store. When asked who she was at the store with, the only response she gave was "mommy".
Now, I know we want our kids to call us Mom/Dad or Mommy/Daddy or something like that, but it made me remember that I have to make sure my 19 month old eventually learns my full legal name. He's still developing his verbal skills, and can't really say his own name yet, but I'm going to make sure and teach him as soon as he's able.

Both mine know my name (full name and love to tell people it...) and my parents names (for when they stay with them), they also know our house number but unfortunately our street name is very difficult to pronounce.

Yes, they both know our names. Isaac knows our full names and the town we live in. We're working on teaching him our phone number. I'm not sure Isabel would tell someone what our names were if she were asked, I guess if she were in the mood, LOL. Isaac definitely would.

Well, we are currently in the struggle of getting Akeelah to call us Mummy and Daddy rather than by our first names, so I'm sure we won't have too much of a problem!
But that is one thing I'll make sure of that, she knows my first and last name and can describe what I look like, considering many people don't believe I'm her mum already.

I didn't teach mine till it was something they asked dd1 in her preschool evaluation (just a basic skills/school readiness evaluation) and she didn't know so we taught her and then the others.
The after school program I work in uses a password program. Once I know the parents I don't ask every day but if someone else picks them up they have to know the password. The first week of school we had a dad pick up the kids but mom had filled out the paperwork and not told him the password. Kid knew him and with a few guesses he was able to figure it out. He figured it had to do with a certain theme so he gave a few. I already knew there was nothing in the paperwork saying she couldn't go with dad.

both of our kids have known our names since they were about 3. Though recently, I had asked my 10 year old Ds what my name was, and he gave the nickname that everyone calls me, but I wanted to know if he knew my legal first name, and he thought for a minute and then guessed "Mom?"

My daughter (21 mos) recently learned my name when I had a friend stay with us for a week. She gets great amusement out of using it instead of Mommy. I don't think she would be able to tell someone my name if she lost me somehow. She's never tried to say her daddy's name and we haven't tried to teach her.
Interestingly enough, I can't get her to say her own name.

There used to be a commercial about making sure your kids knew all that information. I was hoping to find it on youtube, but I didn't.

Hannah and up do. Noah and Nick know our phone number. Noah knows our address and several family member's cell phone numbers.
We had this problem often when I worked at Walmart. Lost kids as old as 6 or 7 didn't know their parents' names. You're right to teach them as early as they can be taught.

Helen knows her first and last name and almost knows her phone number. She doesn't know my name...or if she does she won't say it, no matter how much we talk about it. On the other hand, she does know her daddy's name and says it rather than daddy most of the time! (Believe me, this drives my husband crazy.)
We have talked a lot about what to do if somehow we get seperated in a store or somewhere but I'm not sure how much of it she understands...she is only 2!

Grace knew both of our names early on. She didn't say her full name til she was almost 3 though. It was at that time that she learnt our address. She also knows what to do if someone comes to the yard or if she gets lost in the shops.
I like that password thing Ryanne, haven't heard of that before. You would think over all the years of me doing protective behaviour courses for teaching someone would of brought it up.

Yes, they know our first names. I think the littlest one would be the only one who might not know my last name, although he knows his own last name. I don't think he's put it together yet that we all have the same last name.
Most of them know our phone number, too, and our oldest even carries one of my husband's business cards with him,

My kids all know my first and last name and also their dad's, grandparents, and even aunts and uncles.

My kids knew our names, address and phone numbers around 3 yrs old.
DO NOT FORGET TO TEACH THEM THE AREA CODE OF YOUR PHONE NUMBER, that way if they cannot remember the city you live in or their address it will narrow things down.

I'm so glad I read this thread because it reminds me of the fact that my 26 month doesn't know my first and last name well enough to tell someone else. We'll need to work on that fact some more.

LOL, someone once asked my son what my whole name was and he said "Mommy Lovely" He connected that we all have the same last name but never dawned on him I had another first name.

Funny story - when one of our granddaughters were small she was telling me her name, her mommies name and her daddies name. I asked her what grandpa's and my name was. She was extremely upset put her hands on her hips and informed me in no uncertain terms that our names where Grandpa and Grandma. Just the idea that we could have other names was to much for her.

I remember when I was young and first started answering the phone, someone called and asked for my mom by her full first name. I only ever knew the shortened form which (almost) everyone called her, so I told the person they had the wrong number and hung up on them.
