Catherine, I'm glad that you'll be able to have Thanksgiving on the base with Douglas. Glad too that you finally got your license!

Then today when I left to take the kittens back Did you talk about the kittens this time? I didn't see any posts about them, so I didn't know if you had more or not. I like reading about what they are like and how they've grown.

I'm registered non-partisan. I got a pamphlet in the mail the other day about being a California Independent voter. It said, "As a California Independent voter, you should vote this way....." It told me I should vote for Obama, no on Prop 8, and a bunch of other liberal leanings. I'm thinking to myself, a) don't tell me how to vote. b) if I'm independent, doesn't that mean that I could lean either direction and don't want either party influencing me? Back in the primaries, I got a thing saying I could register democrat for the primaries if I wanted to vote for Obama or Clinton. But I didn't have the option to register republican to vote for McCain or Guilianni or whoever else was running. The non-partisan/Independent population in California is seriously manipulated by the liberals and it's aggravating. (I wouldn't want to be manipulated by the conservatives either, for what it's worth.) I have another question: How is it that California can elect a Republican governor, vote Yes on Prop 8 (essentially banning gay marriage), and still choose Obama? I seriously doubt that there are a significant number of people who voted for Obama and voted Yes on Prop 8. It's just so mind-boggling. Almost as if conservatives voted for the state level and not the national? Or liberals voted national only and not on the state level. It really confuses me.

California is a very confusing state. I was talking to my son last night, he had to get off the phone because he was coming up on an intersection and it's illegal to talk on a cell phone but OK to text message while driving. I'm not totally unhappy that I'm gone.

Praying here too, Christine. I miss my Grandpa. He was a neat guy. And it makes me sad that the kids don't have any Grandpa's left alive. They will miss out on that whole Grandpa relationship. Breaks my heart.

it's illegal to talk on a cell phone but OK to text message while driving. Now that makes no sense at all. You have to use your eyes to text but you can be very vigilant in watching the road and traffic around you while talking on the phone. I'm sorry about your grandpa, Christine. I'm sure that must be worrisome. Catherine, that's great you'll be able to have Thanksgiving dinner on the base.

Catherine, I was talking more with Jeremy about your brother and basic and he actually volunteered to write him if he wanted to hear from someone who has 'been there'. Christine, I'm waiting for the same email/call about my Grandmother.

Don't get too discouraged Catherine. The economy is in the pits right now, I imagine when that starts to pick up, so will the need for appraisals. I can understand your frustration, though.

Well, I called the E&O Insurance again Friday. This time the lady actually did something. She called back after not too long and said that the policy in place covers the whole business, so the cost of the insurance won't go up unless I increase the company's annual income. So that is nice. I was surprised to hear that though. The office had a different provider for the previous years I had been there and on that policy they named who was covered. It is raining pretty heavily tonight... after I just washed my car yesterday. Of course. I thought the weather might be good for more than 24 hours. Not doing much this weekend. Only 15 days til we leave for Oklahoma/Texas! Woo! It is weird, I have been planning this trip is slow spurts. Usually I do most my trip planning at once, or at least it keeps cycling through my mind that I need to do it. The other day Matt asked me about a rental car and I was like, "Oh yah, I still haven't reserved one." I finally called a boarding place for Princess on Thursday and I was glad they still had space for Thanksgiving. I think most people might not know about this place. I saw the add on Craigslist, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it either. It is someone who runs the boarding on her own property on the outskirts of town... and it is licensed and all that. I think we are going to drive down to Vegas for Christmas. I had hoped to never do that awful drive again, but I miss my grandma and Christmas falls on a decent enough day that we can spend three non-traveling days there. Hopefully gas prices will stay under $3 a gallon until then. Driving there is much cheaper than flying and renting a car. And it is nice that my grandma doesn't charge room and board. And I think I have got most the "I miss Vegas food" places out of my system during my last few visits. And hopefully Douglas will be in Vegas during that time as well on Christmas vacation. So, yah, hopefully that trip won't cost too much. I haven't yet decided if we will take Princess with us or if I will board her at the outskirts of town place again.

ORIGINAL: christsstar How are you guys doing without Ami right now? Has Princess adjusted yet? I think Princess has adjusted. She started out being the only dog and I think she might like it better that way. I am sure she also likes that we don't have any kittens right now. Her level of tolerance for kittens is low. It is interesting that Ami has been the first "person" to die that really affected me. One grandpa and one uncle died when I was 15 and under, but neither of those bothered me much because I wasn't close ot them. With Ami I cried on and off for two days. Now when I think about her I think that it is quite unfortunate that it was her time to go. Last night I was editing my myspace profile, and I couldn't bear to say that I only have one dog. Matt and I were talking last night and we both agree that we are glad that Matt and his dad put Ami down instead of taking her to the Animal Emergency room. It is nice to know where she is buried and that her last moments weren't on an exam table with someone she didn't know. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Got to talk to Douglas for 57 minutes today. He is doing well, and even thinking about extending his contract for how long he is going to serve. He did say today that he is glad Matt and I can be at his graduation because a lot of his battle buddies don't have anyone coming and they are depressed. I figured as much. He did say it was sad that for the first two months he was the only one without mail, pictures, and/or a cell phone. Even though cell phones aren't technically allowed during basic training, they do allow the soldiers to have them for a while on Sunday so they can call home, and the rest of the week they stay in the captain's office. Douglas said that one day for some reason a pile of junk mail came in their unit's mail. The Drill Sargent looked at Douglas and said, "Hey, you don't get any mail. Here, you can have this." So have gave Douglas the pile of junk mail. Douglas said it is sad when even the Drill Sargent knows that you don't get any mail. So since Douglas can have a cell phone once a week I am going to overnight mail that out to him tomorrow. I am also going to print some pictures and send those as well. Douglas says everyone else has pictures taped on their locker. Even though it is kind of late, I figure two weeks with pictures is better than none.
