Pax Christi, like someone here said. I'm glad I found this forum (this is my first posting) God struck me too with Paul's messages. After hearing him you cannot think the same about holiness. I don't want to flatter you (since Paul W said flattery is a sin) but also your messages here encouraged me and built me up. I mean, this thread, it's all I read so far. Then, this is what I imagine Stephen, John the Baptist or the apostles preached. I kinda thought that those who preach like this will never be on CNN or appear in "most influential evangelicals" list. Like Rick Warren or John Eldredge (I came across their teachings lately). Then, I never understood this "cultural relevance" we like to talk about. It's like adjusting the Gospel to the world. Now, Paul W "confirmed" it. Now I need wisdom and humbleness to talk to some of my closer brothers at church. And also ask the pastor what he thinks about it. I'm not sure they would agree with it (baptist church, invitations, tracts, raising hands, seldom about repentance and holiness). God bless, Cris

cgruita, Welcome to Crosswalk Forums! I highly doubt Paul Washer will be invited to speak on CNN, NBC, or ABC any time soon. These liberal networks wouldn't have a chance to last even 1 minute with Washer. Although I would love to see him speak on national television, I don't think liberal America would welcome his tough and straighforward sermons.

The dialogue in the courtroom between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson was a great example........ Tom Cruise said: "I WANT THE TRUTH!" Jack Nicholson replied: "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

I get depressed if I listen to him too much. Because I am very convicted about his preaching on the modern church. Which goes back to doctrine. Which is what our modern Christianity has a great need for. Kind of like Obama needs to really study our Constitution ...... hard.

ORIGINAL: IMA_CHRISTIAN Hi - you got to meet him in person? I did too. He is a very kind-hearted humble person. and it was a blessing to hear him in person, and stay to speak with him afterward. I think we need to care more about (if possible) have the Lord Jesus meet us in person. I love brother Paul, but lets remember that he is still a human-being and not infallible. Lets seek to meet the person who is infallible, who is not just human but God, Who is the owner and Lord of brother Paul. And who knows, maybe He will Speak to us. yes so true! a lot of us just care a lot for our brother.. and but i know the best way we can do that is to - follow the Lord Jesus, and give to missions. i.e. some times people take missionary trips and spend a lot of money and they are not very effective, i.e. they go and continue on the easy believism.. but you know when you see these dear missionaries living such a simple life, that money could have gone to an indiginous missionary who is already there, already knows the language, etc. or even to sacrifice our Starbucks coffee could go a long way.. (just make your own coffee and save the money!).. unforunately one bad thing happened - GOD TV - which has the WORST of the crazy preachin stuff going on (todd bentley and other false prophets) have already made their way past the USA and is now broadcasting on satellite to another country, i cant remmeber which, but its a shame that this heresy has gone onto other countries and now they will be hearing the toxic rubbish preached to them. Im really sad and sickened that they have made their way past the USA airwaves. I know Bro Paul is sad to hear that.. he had a sermon about it - saying that he hoped the walls of Cuba would not open up to this easy believism preaching.

Well, I got sick of hearing the same old sermons from today's modern pastors. The typical "God loves you and were all going to heaven to live happily ever after." Basically the same old theme wherever I went. Its so hard these days to find modern pastors talking about sin and judgement, even the ones that do only talk about it very seldomly. It took me awhile to find a church where the pastor actually preached the entire gospel and had the courage to stand up for the truth of God's word.

While we are getting ready to wip-out the sword and start swinging away. We should remember to "speak the truth in Love." I like to use this analogy, quote:
A blade that a surgeon can use to cut out cancer in a dying man. Put in the hands of an untrained man can send that dying man to his grave quicker. I am not saying that we shouldn't speak the truth of God's word boldly, but we need to make sure that we abide in the presence of the Holy-Spirit, so that He will teach us and lead us in what to say and the time to say it.

You touched a nerve here. When I let the career missionary know that we spent $10,000 in gas, food and lodging just to get our group to the mission field, he winced like he had been slapped. I wonder what he could have done with that money. quote:

hi - yeah I was very happy to be in the whole conference, it was Friday thru sunday night - tottally 100% just being in church hearing the various sermons and fellowshippihng with nice people! in fact when i came home, i felt kinda empty. which concerns me, but thats another topic. to be honest, I really did hold Paul Washer in a bit of a high esteem more than i should for awhile, but i guess I just appreciate all the sermons i heard from him and I know they are from the Lord, but i try to honor the Lord #1 and keep everything in perspective. i guess I have to be excited about something, since i dont have that much excitement in my life.. haha A lot of people just care for the minsters God sends to us, we are grateful to God for being able to hear good preaching. but yah i was glad to hear someone else from here also got to see him.. for one big reason, some folks who do NOT know him make up some bad ideas about him.. but I recommend any time a minister comes to your area, you might want to go see and hear them for yourself and make up your own mind. Its a great opportunity! Next summer, when that church has its conference again in 2009, Im going to go no matter who the main evangelist is. wow I have never met such a nice sweet bunch o folks!

I believe paul teachers that as christians we must live in GOD'S word by faith in believing that HIS word is true. That we should live as Jesus did. He (Jesus) did not tolerate sin, but told them not to sin anymore. Let it be known that the narrow is the way of life that GOD wants us to live, not the way we want to live it. Like Christmas for example, do you think the LORD wants us to be hanging around a tree with lights and toys or should we be out telling people what this day is about the birth of CRIST OUR LORD. So let's the world out of church so people can tell differance

SLAIR, Welcome to Crosswalk Forums! When I heard Washer give his sermon at the Youth Conference about how small is the gate AND narrow is the road in Christianity, it really put my life in a different perspective. To put in lamens term, it basically put me in check. We've all been told to just accept Jesus in our life and we'll be on our way to heaven. Is Christianity really that arrogant? I believe not. Have you heard pastors ever give a sermon on this verse: "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide AND the way is broad that leads to destruction, AND there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small AND the way is narrow that leads to life, AND there are few who find it." You won't hear this verse too often in sermons. The truth is not easy to handle and sometimes the truth does hurt, but for those who will accept it and live by it and overcome, there reward will be eternal life. Nowhere in the bible does Jesus say that following Him will be a piece of cake. On the contrary, following Jesus Christ everyday will be comparable to walking through a narrow road, but Jesus will be faithful to those who remain in Him.

Hello everyone, This is my first post on this forum and I have specifically joined to post on this topic to express some views and concerns on PW. Now before I give any thoughts on this, let me point out that I believe you all to be my brethren, even Paul Washer. I will give you my background, I'm a believer in Christ (a Nazarene if you want a church classification) I am a young follower (2 years) and I have had stumbles in my walk so far, as many young believers do. I'm a sinner, I'm sometimes weak, I sometimes give into the sins of the world. Point being, I am fallible. Knowing this, I realize my need for Christ to save me. I realize that he drank the cup of wrath that was intended for me and I love Him for it. I know I deserve death, I know I deserve eternal damnation, I know that because He loved us, He gave Himself up for us. Now comes my views on Paul Washer. While he has shown me in some of his sermons my absolute need for Christ and while he has also given me a deeper understanding of what Christ really did and how I should value that more, he has also shown me some things that I consider an absolute wrong against what the Good News really represents. To me, PW is a sinner just as much as me, how do I know this? Because 1 sin against God as just as bad as 1000 or 10000 sins. 1 sin, just 1, caused Adam and Eve to fall away from God. So how can PW stand there and tell me I'm not good enough, I'm not pious enough, I'm not working enough, I'm not putting forth my full effort enough to be counted righteous by God when his sin, 1 sin, is equated to my 5000 sins by God? To me, that goes against the very foundational need we have for Christ! If we were perfect to begin with, or if the law could be attained by man in the OT, then there would have been no need for Christ! I understand the need for repentance, I understand about letting the Holy Spirit guide you into having the mind of Christ and growing, but can any one of you say honestly say to God you are perfect? Without sin? Any one? Can Washer? If you or he did that, then according to the apostle Paul you are deceiving yourself and guess what?! Sinning! SO here is my issue with him. As a young believer still clinging tightly to the Word to guide my path, to be a lamp beneath my feet trusting in Jesus to be my salvation, he comes along and tries to make the path narrower. Is it his right to call out the saved or unsaved, the believer or the unbeliever, or is it God's? Is it his right to call his way the only way to God? While I agree that the church today is likening more and more to Laodicea and the need to get back to good biblical doctrine, I don't agree of changing from one extreme to another. And this is exactly what I see. Olsteen - one extreme, Washer - another extreme on different ends of the spectrum. Where is God in this????? Is He not the One telling me as a sinner, that while you were a sinner I still loved you and many others like you so I bought you with my Son's blood? Is that not the truth??? Is it not a FREE gift from God? Then why is Washer telling me that I'm not good enough to receive His FREE gift? You know where this leaves me standing? 1) It leaves me thinking that both Olsteen and Washer are flawed in their views and 2) All I can do is trust in Jesus that he will count me righteous by His FREE gift, even though all the works I could ever do in the world will look like filthy rags to Him. I'm sorry that I may offend some on here about my views of Mr. Washer's teaching, but I do hope and pray that he hasn't discouraged or caused ANY young Christian like myself to stumble in their walk with Jesus, like he almost did with me. And if he has, then judgement be GOD's and GOD's alone.

To Paul Washer, he is as much of a sinner as anyone else. You won't ever hear him say otherwise. And I don't think he's the one who made the path narrower. I think God did that Himself.

I'm not understanding. You think God made the path narrower? Then you might as well throw out His WORD which states plainly........ "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Amen! How can anyone argue with Romans 4:5? ... And if you throw that out, then you are claiming God as a liar and that God narrowed the path without telling ANYONE. Did Jesus not rebuke the Pharisees? And if you are saying Jesus "narrowed" the path then what about "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas." Hebrews 13;8-9 Also, according to Paul Washer's thinking, the church congregation at Corinth evidently wasn't saved, because they lived in horrible sin; yet Paul calls them "babes in Christ" in 1st Corinthians 3:1. We must be careful not to label all carnal and immature believers as "unsaved." In Romans 12:1, Paul begged the believers at Rome to surrender their lives to God. They were saved, but they hadn't presented their bodies to God "a living sacrifice" yet. Look at the carnal church at Corinth! They were suing each other (1st Corinthians 6:6), eating meats offered to idols (1st Corinthians 8:12), allowing fornication within the church (1st Corinthians 5:1), showing up drunk at the Lord's Supper (1st Corinthians 11:21), et cetera. Galatians 1:6-9 warns... "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." and "But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:2-3) Simplicity! The true Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaims salvation as the free gift of God (Romans 5:15;6:23), paid for by Jesus' literal precious blood (1st Peter 1:18,19). Man has no part in salvation. Eternal life is the free gift of God (Ephesians 2:8,9), available to anyone who freely receives it (Revelation 22:17) upon the understanding that we are guilty sinners deserving of Hellfire (Romans 3:19; 6:23). Paul Washer makes many good statements, and he is certainly correct about the wayward Christianity and apostasy in America; HOWEVER, he makes the deadly error of requiring the FRUIT of repentance as part of saving grace. Washer is adamantly clear that a person is not saved who doesn't have a drastic turnabout in their lifestyle. Yet, the Bible is filled with believers who sinned horribly; such as, Noah, Lot, Jacob, Judah, Samson, David, Solomon, Jonah, Peter, Paul (who was so humble he called himself the worst of sinners) and the carnal church at Corinth and yet they were still counted righteous by faith. And like you said, if Paul Washer indeed says he is a sinner, then who is he to decide who is saved or unsaved? And by doing so, even as a sinner, doesn't he make himself to be GOD, the ONLY Righteous Judge?? Say what you will, Romans 4:5 is abundantly clear that a person’s faith is COUNTED for righteousness, because we have no righteousness of our own to offer God. All we have to offer is our own self-righteousness, which is declared FILTH to God (Isaiah 64:6; Romans 10:3,4).

"But prove yourselves DOERS of the word, and nto merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a DOER, he is like a man who looks a his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was." - James 1:22-24 "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we CONFESS our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have nto sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." - 1st John 1:8-10 "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing any to perish but for all to come to REPENTANCE." - 2nd Peter 3:9 "John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS" - Mark 1:4 "But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, 'You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bring forth FRUIT IN KEEPING WITH REPENTANCE; and do not suppose that you can say yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father"; for I say to you that God is able from all these stones to raise up children to Abraham. And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that DOES NOT BEAR GOOD FRUIT IS CUT DOWN and thrown into the fire. As for me, I baptize you with water FOR REPENTANCE..." - Matthew 3:7-10 "IF they CONFESS their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against me...---....Then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land." - Leviticus 26:40, 42 "...and My people who are called by My name HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND PRAY, and seek My face, and TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." - 2nd Chronicles 7:14 Shall I go on? I have a whole topical bible that I have barely even touched regarding the topic of repentance. Facts are that Repentance IS required if one is truly a child of God. Or lets put it this way, anyone who has NOT and DOES NOT repent of their sins is NOT saved and is NOT walking with Christ Jesus. This is not a work, and in no way destroys the sovereignty of God. Truly you will find few who are more in line with the Doctrines of Grace than myself or Brother Paul Washer. However people dont like hearing this message because they are deluted in thinking that the "grace" of God is simply a get out of jail free card. Sin all you want, for as long as you want, then pull out the card and poof, your sins are gone, even if you have no regrets. That is NOT the true gospel of Christ Jesus. There MUST be a repentance of sins in the life of a Christian if they trully are saved. And it is not something you do once, and that is that. It is something you CONTINUALLY DO! Each and every time you sin, you repent. Every night of every day your prayer should be to your Savior "please forgive me of any sins I might have made, and teach me to follow after YOUR will and not my flesh". Because we WILL sin, even as believers, 1st John tells us this clearly. But if we do not repent of those sins, if we do not feel guilty for our sins, then all you are doing is adding to Christ Jesus' burden on the cross, with no love for Him and His sacrifice. That is what repentance means. It is saying "Lord! I am sorry for adding another sin to your cross!" Here is something else that might interest you. Brother Washer is NOT a pastor. He does not speak every Sunday. The reason why nearly every message you hear from him that deals with this topic of sin and repentance, is that is what God has laid on his heart to speak on. By the way...The path IS narrow! "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, AND THE WAY IS NARROW that leads to life, AND FEW ARE THOSE WHO FIND IT!" - Matthew 7:13-14 The words of Christ Jesus do indeed show us that the way is narrow. And that includes repenting of our sins. For again, anyone who claims to follow Christ WILL REPENT OF THEIR SINS PERIOD!
