Okay, I guess "did not" though it could have been "would not". Whatever the case, I couldnt make contact with them and its been a while. Though the LC at the hospital was good and said I could call her any time, but said we were doing everything right.

I just have to say...Isaac went over 36 hours without a bottle! Todays bottle is only because I am back at work (1/2 days). I'm so happy! Everyday nursing gets easier and better. NO FUSSING either! He latches on, and stays on for a good while too! I even nursed him away from home (at grandparents houses) and he did good!!

Well he went that long without a bottle but apparently he isnt getting enough. He's spent all evening screaming. I broke down and gave him a bottle (after he nursed for over an hour) and he took it like he hadnt eaten in forever. I dont know what to do, my milk supply is getting worse.

OR...it's just taking your supply a little longer than he'd like to catch up with his appetite. That's okay. And it's okay for him to have a bottle if he needs one. What is the goal? A healthy, growing I-man? Right? Then you get to that goal however you need to get there, even if it means he doesn't nurse all the time.

You're doing great, Erin!

Erin, my wee one knows bottles are easier.

My wee one knows when we go out she gets a bottle if she's hungry.

She also knows that anything left she gets to finish when we get home.

She LOVES the bottle. It's easy, she gets to look around at the world and play with her Daddy.

This weekend I had to pump both sides several times because she had a bottle and I needed not only to relieve pressure but I didn't want my supply affected by missing that feeding. Usually I only pump one time in the morning, it goes into freezer to be used when we go out. I don't have NEAR the supply you do stocked up but I am SO happy that I have it to use when I need it or she needs it.

Yesterday she got soo out of whack and tired that she could not nurse. She just refused. I got her a bottle and she went to town and then passed out for 3 hours. She needed to catch up on sleep apparently.

Now today she had a stuffy nose that I think is worsening and a slight 'odd' wheeze to her breathing when she cries. So she had two bottles and I pumped those feedings and put some milk up her nose. We already have issues with her air supply while she nurses, I have to hold my breast tissue back so she doesn't smother.. so add that to a stuffy nose and I just couldn't make her more miserable.

I say all that to get out that you are going to have sucky nursing days. Days where he wants a bottle more than he wants to nurse.

BUT I've also had days where she wasn't happy with any amount of nursing and I flat refused to give her a bottle. The NEXT day she was back to her normal eating self but WHAM I had more milk, she was in heaven. Apparently she was heading into a growth spurt.

Hang in there, it's not this easy magical thing that every mom and baby just 'get' from the get go. It's hard!!! I didn't think it would be this hard or have this many ups and downs. Holy Holsteins Batman!!!

I dont know, I've spent all night bawling because he acts like I am starving him to death. After nursing for over am hour, which was only an hour after the previous nursing session he took 4oz. I cant seem to get enough when I pump either. Maybe I need to just go back to pumping and giving bottles, everytime we try nursing what little supply I have goes away. I thought my supply was good until I hear how much everyone else gets at a pumping...makes my almost 3 oz seem wimpy. I'd pump after nursing but after it takes him an hour then he demands to be held then wants to eat again in an hour...leaves little time for it. Maybe I'm just being whiney but I'm having a really hard time right now...right now Isaac can do it, I'm just the one letting him down by not giving him enough to eat.

Um. No. Some of us (ME!) can barely squeeze out a drop when it's not the baby nursing!

Are you still taking meds for your milk supply?

Honestly, Erin, it sounds like a growth spurt on his part. I always feel like I don't have enough milk during a growth spurt. Just hang in there, ride it out, and give him a bottle when you need to.

Erin- YOU are doing a great job! I am with Donna, it sounds like a growth spurt- with both of my girls, there were times when I spent 1-3 days in.a.chair.all.day.long. We probably nursed 12-14 hours a day some of that time (I know it was *at least* that with Eleni, and mine were full termers). I don't *know* but I imagine that Isaac will have more growth spurts than the "average" baby b/c he was so early- he missed a lot of packing on the pounds times in your belly. You are nurisng him like crazy and still getting 3 oz- THAT'S GREAT! You keep up with what you are doing- and I hope this doesn't offend you in any way, but going back to work is probably weighing heavily on you and making things seem more extreme than they are- you are doing fine- he is growing and developing. You are still able to be home with him most of the time- these are all good things- tears are allowed, but no more beating yourself up! You are doing great!

I was given two boxes of disposable nursing pads, they were both opened. One box is the Lansinoh, and the other is Gerber. I do not use them, they are just sitting around here taking up space. Anyone want them? I have no idea how many there are. Maybe 30, maybe 50? I'm not taking the time to count them, but if anyone wants them PM me and I'll send them out!

I'm using these wonderful wool ones and have some cotton ones if I need.

Mothers Milk Tea

Bitter Fennel Fruit (Organic)
Aniseed Fruit (Organic)
Proprietary Blend:
Caraway Fruit (Organic)
Nettle Herb (Organic)

Mama's Milk Tea Herb blend
* 2 parts Red Raspberry leaf - cut
* 2 parts Fennel seed - whole
* 2 parts Nettle leaf - cut
* 1 part Fenugreek seed - whole
* 1 part Dandelion leaf - cut
* 1/2 part Blessed Thistle - cut

For me, the Mothers Milk did nothing, I think the Fenugreek and Fennel in Mama's milk blend makes the difference for me.

See now both of those teas boosted my supply. Even just RRL tea does it for me.

Milk seems to be doing a little better today. First pumping, less than 3oz (Isaacs current amount). Second pumping, 3oz exactly. Thats improvement right?

Last night my milk supply seemed to be doing better. Everytime we woke up to eat my boobies felt full, almost engorged. I was too lazy to get out of bed and pump when he got done, but we bought a manual pump today that will probably help with that, I hated to hook up to my PIS at 2am just to get 1/2 an oz that he left, but I feel like I SHOULD get that 1/2 oz out, KWIM? Anyway, we'll see how the manual pump helps out. I'll still use my PIS for my normal at work pumpings and such. Also he seemed VERY content after eating, and slept right through until the next feeding. So we are still making progress.

It will always seem like 2 steps forward and 1 backwards.. Not always, but for a few more months atleast.

You are doing GREAT.

I have a hand pump but got the Medela Swing single to use once a day to get some in the freezer. The hand pump just wasn't working well enough for me BUT you may have great luck to just get that extra. and YES get hat extra out IF you want to maintain your supply.
